Our Mission

SodaPop Records Limited is a boutique music company focused on helping musicians unlock new revenue streams.

At the heart of our mission is a simple idea: help repair the damage done to music-based livelihoods after the Telecommunications Act of 1996 reshaped the industry.

That law loosened radio ownership limits, allowing a small number of large corporations to buy hundreds—even thousands—of stations nationwide.

In doing so, it quietly changed the game for local musicians.

Before the Act:

  • Most radio stations were locally owned.
  • DJs and program directors had meaningful control over what got played.
  • Local bands had a real chance of earning airplay in their own markets.

After the Act:

  • Decision-making moved out of local communities and into national headquarters.
  • Companies like Clear Channel Communications and Cumulus Media came to control large portions of the dial.
  • Playlists became increasingly standardized and controlled at the corporate level.

Power shifted toward major labels with national promotion budgets, while independent artists lost leverage. For unsigned musicians, radio largely stopped being a viable path to growth.

For unknown, local musicians trying to earn a living, the climb became much steeper.

Then, as streaming services rose to prominence, working musicians watched additional revenue streams disappear—often without fully understanding what had changed or why.

SodaPop Records Limited exists to help artists adapt to that reality, rebuild opportunity, and find new ways to earn.
